McCarthy Gallery is excited to present our first series of our gallery artist, curated exhibitions—celebrating Pacific contemporary art—As well as an opportunity to collaborate closely with our patrons, partners and collectors.
Faraimo Paulo is an important Pacific contemporary painter, carver, and designer from Tokelau. Paulo's work is incredible and deserves to be celebrated as an iconic artist. Paulo will be presenting an impressive collection of small works on canvas. He is self-determined and self-taught and is working to preserve the history and culture of his people. Paulo has embarked on a mission to paint and share his work with the rest of the world. His art depicts his love for the people, culture, myths, stories, and natural surroundings of Tokelauan society in all of their beauty.
As emigration and the rising waters caused by global warming threaten to eradicate the traditional Tokelauan way of life, the island nations of the Pacific are particularly susceptible to the effects of climate change; many are already facing increased temperatures, altered rainfall patterns, increasing sea levels, and alterations in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events. With far-reaching effects on communities and their natural environment, Paulo's work restores awareness and hope. To capture the essence of his subjects, Paulo often uses family members as models in his paintings.
Paulo's captivating small canvases are on display in this exhibition, which presents a unique chance to begin collecting Pacific art at an affordable price.
Note: Tokelau is made up of three coral atolls: Atafu, Nukunonu, and Fakaofo, and is located 500 kilometres north of Samoa.
McCarthy Gallery is proud to represent Faraimo Paulo in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
